Welcome to our Nursery, also known as Holly class

Welcome to Holly class. We are Nursery and the youngest children in school who love to spend our time together busily learning through play. We may only attend school part time – but this is packed with lots of fun, practical learning experiences both indoors and outdoors! Our classroom and outdoor area include quality ‘real life’ resources that are provided to help us engage in meaningful activities.
Learning is play! In Nursery we are encouraged to be independent and learn through play. We choose what we would like to do and adults interact with us to support and extend our learning, help build our communication skills and develop our relationships with our peers.
Learning also takes place in small groups, or whole class sessions which is planned to meet our interests and needs. Some of our learning is theme based linked to a book exploring ‘Learning Challenges’ such as ‘What can I see out of my window?’, ‘Would you like to have tea with a Gruffalo?’, ‘What do we know about Superheroes?’ and ‘What does Mrs Wishy-Washy do?

Home Learning
We would like Book Bags to be in school on a Monday and a Wednesday.
Monday – Library book. A book chosen by your child from the school library for you to read to and share with your child.
Wednesday – Reading Journal. A different task each week to discuss and respond to linked to the library book your child has chosen.

Once children begin the Read, Write Inc. phonics programme in the spring/summer term Book Bags are needed in school every day and will include :
A Sound Book with the new sound taught each day.
Handwriting formation sheet of the new sound taught each day.

Parents and carers are invited to add their own contributions to their child’s Learning Journey by completing ‘Wow’ sheets when their child does something they are proud of. A guidance booklet is given to parents with ideas linked to the areas of learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.
Many of these ‘Wow’ sheets are displayed on the ‘Wow Wall’ outside the classroom.
