Expectations for School Uniform

Personal presentation is very important to us as we believe it helps promote high standards and encourages children to take pride in themselves and their school.

Each Day, our children are required to wear the following clothing:

-       Plain white shirt / blouse / polo-shirt

-       Royal blue jumper / sweatshirt / cardigan

-       Dark grey or black trousers / skirts / shorts

-       White, black or grey socks

-       All black shoes / trainers

Our Activ8 sports coaches are in school each Wednesday and children should arrive ready changed in their PE kit please. Each class has an additional PE day where children will change in school (Class Teachers will notify you of this!) and kits should be brought in a named bag.

Expectations for PE Kit:

-       Plain white t- shirt

-       Dark blue or black shorts

-       White, black or grey socks

-       Sports trainers or pumps (for indoor use)

Style and Fit:

All we ask is that pupil’s uniform be clean, fit for purpose and meet standards of modesty. The aim is for children to feel smart and comfortable at all times. Tops should be regular fitting (e.g not overly tight or baggy) and not expose shoulders. All skirts & shorts should be of a reasonable length i.e. just above the knee.

Expectations for Swimming - Pupils in Y4 attend a weekly 45-minute swimming session at Dearne Valley Leisure Centre. In order to adhere to the health and safety regulations, children must wear appropriate swimwear as follows please:

-       Swimming trunks or close fitting swim shorts (no baggy Bermuda / Board shorts etc.)

-       One-piece swimming costume (no bikinis)

-       Long hair must be tied back, or a swimming cap used

Please could all uniform have children’s names written in as this ensures that any misplaced clothing is returned to the correct child

Loan of Uniform / Sports Kit:

There may be times when it is necessary for your child to be loaned an item of branded school clothing, such as when competing in a sports competition, or representing the school at a public event. The expectation would be for all loaned kit to be either left at school or returned to us after the event. Details of clothing requirements in such circumstances will always be communicated to parents in advance. Please note that if pupils do not wish to wear, or are unable to wear a loaned, branded item, they would be able to wear a suitable alternative.

Jewellery:

In order to adhere to the health and safety regulations - no item of jewellery can be worn at school except for a watch (no smart watches please), ear studs (no body piercings) or to conform to religious beliefs. Pupils must remove jewellery to participate in any P.E session, except to conform to religious beliefs.

Other items your child will require:

-       Book bag in school colours

-       School Bag or Rucksack

-       Water bottle (provided free each year)

Where to Purchase or Acquire Uniform

To help support our parents and families, please note that our uniform does not have to be branded (i.e include the school logo) and we only ask that you please adhere to the specified colour scheme and guidelines.

Plain uniform and P.E kit in our school colours can be purchased at most supermarkets and high street / online retailers.

However, should you wish to buy items branded with the Highwoods Academy logo, embroidered sweatshirts, fleeces, cardigans, polo shirts and PE t-shirts can be ordered from MyClothing.Com. Branded book bags, school / PE bags and replacement water bottles are also available, click the icon below:

At times, we will have uniform donated to us and, dependent upon stock, we will have a termly second-hand uniform sale and ‘swap-shop’ at school. If you wish to donate any uniform, in good condition, please just drop it off with a member of our office team.

Should you have any issues obtaining school uniform or any concerns regarding uniform expectations, please do not hesitate to get in touch with a member of the team and we will be more than happy to help and support. You may speak to us in person or email admin-highwoods@empoweringmindsmat.uk
